DIY “The BATchelor Pad” Bat House Kit
You should have:
7 Boards
2 Rails
20 1 ½ ” Nails (extras included)
24 1 ¼ “ Nails (bundled, extras included)
2 Screws
Assembly Instructions:
Building the back- use 1 ¼ ” nails
Step 1: Place rails A and B so that numbers 1-3 are facing up.
Step 2: Attach board 1 to rails A and B making sure to match the shapes on each piece. Make sure that the top and sides of the board are flush with the rails. Then drive a nail through the remaining pre-drilled holes in board 1.
Step 3: Attach boards 2 and 3 to rails A and B in the same way. Note that board 3 will hang down past the rails.
Building the front, use 1 ½ ” nails
Step 4: Flip over the assembly so that numbers 4-6 are facing up.
Step 5: Attach board 4 to rails A and B making sure to align the bottom of board 4 with the marked dots.
Step 6: Attach boards 5 and 6 in the same way. Note that the top of the board will not be flush with the top of the rails.
Step 7: Attach board 7 (the roof) to the rails using two screws. Be sure the back of board 7 is flush with the back of the bat house.
Step 8: Get baked! Place your bat house in a safe location and enjoy whatever comes your way. Bats prefer houses mounted 12 to 20 feet above ground on either a building/house or a pole. Bats typically prefer an internal bat box temperature between 80-100 degrees. You may need to experiment with your bat house placement if you do not see occupancy after a year. You may also want to research what color to paint your bat house dependent on your regional zone. Different paint colors can alter the internal temperature of the bat house.
